CONTRACT PERCUSSION RIFLE MUSKET & BAYONET. Cal. 58. NSN. Standard configuration of "special model 1861/1863" contract rifle musket, 40" barrel dated 1863, "VP / eaglehead proofs", and "W" inspection. 3 position 2 leaf rear sight, 3 clamping barrel bands without band springs. Bolster was stamped with eagle, unique to special models made without cleanout screws. Lock marked "U" & "S" on either side of eagle above "AMOSKEAG Mfg Co / MANCHESTER, N.H." & "1863" at tail. Stock has single inspection cartouche barely discerned. Bayonet is US surcharged with 18" blade. Original Civil War era leather sling attached. CONDITION: good overall, appears complete and original, good markings in cleaned gray metal, stock is sanded and refinished, bayonet and sling both very good. Mechanics crisp, good rifled bore.
